Following the success of Disability Arts Cymru’s Open Arts exhibitions, DAC is delighted to invite disabled and Deaf visual artists who are artistically active, making work and living in Wales to nominate work for a touring exhibition. For the first time, one artist will be awarded the DAC Art Prize of £1,000 to be announced and presented at the Senedd in Cardiff on 1st July 2020.
We are inviting visual artists [Painters – all mediums, Sculptors, Video Artists, Photographers, 3 D Artists, installation artists, Printmakers, Ceramicists, Digital Artists], to submit work and ideas on-line by
30th April 2020 on the theme:
Wales is a country opulent in dramatic backgrounds, glorious seascapes and beautiful countryside that demonstrates an extensive diversity covering forests, castles, rivers, caves and shores.
Visit Wales’ theme for 2020, ‘Outdoors’ will celebrate the Country’s outstanding natural landscapes which are alive with world-leading adventure and a distinctive, contemporary culture. The 870mile Coastal Path; 3 National Parks; 600 Castles; Outstanding Areas of Natural Beauty and Dark Sky Reserves – are all set to be enjoyed in 2020
Fantastic: but what through no fault of your own, you can’t access all this beauty? How can you be truly part of this amazing offer? Are there alternative ways of engaging and experiencing such wonderful vistas and experiences? Indeed, how can you be a part of the ‘Outdoors’ when you are mostly ‘Indoors’?
The DAC art prize is asking disabled and deaf artist to explore this theme through existing or new art, with the finalised pieces of work selected by curators in each participating gallery and three international artists who work within Disability & Deaf Arts practice.
Chosen pieces will be selected to form part of a touring exhibition at the following venues:
Cynon Valley Museum, Aberdare
Cyfarthfa Castle Museum & Gallery, Merthyr Tydfil
Oriel Davies, Newtown
Entries must be received by 30th April 2020
