Audio Described Exhibition

‘Painting Dance’, a new collection of pictures by Carl Chapple.

The exhibition at Ffin y Parc Gallery, Llanrwst runs from September 15th to October 6th.

Audio described tours will take place on Saturday 28th September at 11am and 3pm.

This is the first of two exhibitions. Wales Millennium Centre will play host later in the year, with further details to be announced shortly.

The audio tours will also feature invaluable insights from the artist himself. The inclusion of objects such as ballet shoes, brushes, oils, and the panels that Carl paints on, will be available to touch, feel and smell, giving a sense of the artistic process. The tours will be relaxed and conversational, lasting one to one and a half hours, and will be free to attend.

Carl has been working with Newport-based, international dance company Ballet Cymru since 2016, though the project leading to the current exhibitions began in December 2018.

As artist in residence, Carl has been given free rein to attend Ballet Cymru rehearsals and public performances,
following dancers and choreographers as they explore and develop new ideas, characters and narratives, and create new productions. This access has allowed the artist a unique opportunity to get to know the company and its partners, to engage with their creativity, and to produce new and original works on paper, panel and canvas.

The exhibitions will present pictures depicting Ballet Cymru dancers and others working with the company, including participants in its Pre-Professionals Programme, involving recent dance school graduates from around the world.
The Ffin y Parc exhibition will feature predominantly small to mid-sized paintings and drawings, in oil and charcoal. Some pictures are responses to passages of dance observed in the rehearsal studio – exploring moments both of stillness and of movement – whilst others reflect more collaborative approaches, as dancers and artist work more closely together, away from rehearsal or performance settings.

Entry to the exhibitions and audio tours is free. However, for the audio tours booking is essential. To book tickets, visit www.ticketsource.co.uk/carlchapple.
