Qatar – UK “Year of Culture 2013″
Rachel Gadsden has been invited by the British Council to represent UK as part of Qatar – UK “Year of Culture 2013″.
She will be exhibiting a major solo exhibition of 54 artworks & films for “This Breathing World” as part of the first ever Art & Disability Festival in the Middle East at Katara Cultural Village, Doha.
The exhibition opens on the 15th March, and she will be also creating live visual art performances, leading a series of artistic participatory workshops, contributing to talks and developing artistic relationships with Qatari artists.
You maybe aware that Rachel spent the first twenty years of her life living in the Middle East and this formative cultural experience continues to inhabit and enrich all of her work. She is keen to share this wonderful opportunity with you and so she has created a blog so that, if you are interested, you will be able follow her journey as it unfolds.
While in the Middle East she has also been commissioned to undertake an artistic project in Bahrain in partnership with British Council – Bahrain and Alriwaq Art Space
This commission has awakened many memories for Rachel and she is thrilled to be undertaking this artistic adventure, to the land of her childhood.
She hopes to be able to share her experience with you in London on her return at her planned UK exhibition in May 2013. (details to follow in due course)
