A Radical Classic™ from Volcano

An arresting, untraditional Shakespeare with powerful performances, striking design and sensory surprises! We have stripped back action and character to zoom in on the dynamics of the killer couple, tracking their murderous ambitions, escalating anxieties and disintegrating bonds against a backdrop of sensual pleasure and normalised violence. Expect a boisterous, playful Macbeth with ribald humour and a muscular undertow of menace. This production is ideal for anyone interested in both the play itself and in contemporary performance techniques.

For the second time in its career, Volcano re-invents Shakespeare’s pacy, eloquent tragedy; this time with a new generation of outstanding performers.

“Volcano by name, volcanic by nature, the Swansea company’s psycho serial-killer drama smashes down theatre’s fourth wall, […] moving in and out of Shakespeare’s script in a night of sound and fury signifying plenty.”

Drama Shakespeare mewn arddull hynod, anhraddodiadol gyda perfformiadau pwerus, cynllunwaith trawiadol a syndod i’r synhwyrau! Ry’n ni wedi llacio’r pwyslais ar symud a chymeriad er mwyn canolbwyntio’n sylw ar ddeinameg y pâr llofruddiol, gan ddilyn eu huchelgeisiau dieflig, eu gofidiau cynyddol a datgymaliad y cwlwm rhyngddyn nhw, a hynny yn erbyn cefndir o bleserau’r corff a ‘normalrwydd’ trais. Gallwch ddisgwyl Macbeth hwyliog, llawn egni, a hiwmor amrwd ac is-gerrynt o falais cryf yn gwau drwyddo. Mae’r cynhyrchiad hwn yn un delfrydol ar gyfer unrhyw un sydd â diddordeb yn y ddrama ei hun a thechnegau perfformio cyfoes.

Am yr eildro yn ei hanes, dyma Volcano yn ail-ddyfeisio trasiedi gyflym, huawdl Shakespeare; y tro hwn yng nghwmni cenhedlaeth newydd o berfformwyr arobryn.

A man leaves a consultation room facing a choice. It should be a pretty straightforward choice. Take the pill and live. Don’t take the pill and die. But the decision proves to be more difficult; does he risk losing his life or risk no longer being the person he has been all of his life?

Challenging perceptions of what it is to live with mental illness, Gods & Kings is a bracingly honest and often hugely funny real-life story.

Cosy – 8th to12th March – WMC

Cosy-main“It’s like I’ve disappeared. I walk down the road and throw no shadow.”
“That’s what getting older does for you.”

Rose wants an exit plan that is bold and invigorating, but her three warring daughters have other ideas. We all have to die, but what makes a good death? Everyone seems to have an opinion, Rose’s three daughters, her precocious granddaughter and even the strange woman taking refuge in the garden.

Cosy is a darkly comedic look at the joys and humiliations of getting older and how we shuffle off this mortal coil. Written by award-winning writer Kaite O’Reilly, it tackles head-on our obsession with eternal youth, and asks whose life (or death) is it, anyway?
