Creative Wales–British School at Rome Fellowship 2019–20

The Creative Wales–British School at Rome Fellowship will provide a valuable opportunity for an artist at a significant juncture of their career, who lives in Wales, to undertake a three-month residency in Rome. The Fellowship is open to exceptional, ambitious and imaginative creative individuals, working within the visual arts artform. It will provide an exceptional opportunity for career development for the artists selected, increase Wales’s artistic profile internationally, and make an invaluable contribution to creative Wales.

Helfa gelf – Residencies

Helfa Gelf is hosting a number of residency projects during September as part of this year’s event.




Helfa Gelf @ Galeri, Caernarfon

16 – 17 September
11 – 4pm on both days

Working with HG artists group, CARN, the general public will be invited to create a large installation of large newspaper front pages,  to hang in the space above the Bar at Galeri. The piece will be created in connection to INC festival at Galeri at the end of September. The INC festival is a celebration of the newspaper industry history in Caernarfon. Members of CARN, Rita Ann and Anthony Morris will be inviting you to partake in the creation of the installation in a FREE activity.

The work will then be on show from 18 September – 19 November 2017

Helfa Gelf with Blind Veterans UK, Llandudno

25 – 29 September

Artist Luned Rhys Parri will be creating work with some of the residents based on some of the research made on the building, at Blind Veterans UK in a week long residency. 
The work will then be exhibited at Venue Cymru, Llandudno 1st of October – 31st of December.

Oriel Davies – Litmus

Litmus is an exhibition and development programme offering curatorial and practical support for five early career artists based in Wales and the Welsh Borders to research, develop and present new work at Oriel Davies.

Artists are invited to submit applications for either part 4: Litmus Residency or part 5: Litmus Commission.

Hijinx Residencies are a fantastic opportunity to learn from some of the most well respected theatre companies working in the UK today. Sharing their expertise over week-long workshops, companies such as Complicite, Frantic Assembly, Punchdrunk, Spymonkey, Cardboard Citizens, Told by an Idiot and Ockham’s Razor will help you develop performance skills including clowning, contact improvisation, devising and aerial work.

Working inclusively

If you have never worked alongside learning disabled performers Hijinx Residencies are a fantastic opportunity to do so. A number of places at each course will be allocated to students from the Hijinx Academy, our advanced drama training course for talented learning disabled actors. Come ready to work in a lively, empowering and massively enjoyable environment.

Celf o Gwmpas

Call for artists! An amazing opportunity to apply for a 4 week residence in a supportive, creative and focused environment in beautiful Mid Wales.

Celf o Gwmpas is offering 4 x 4 week residencies in partnership with Disability Arts Cymru (DAC) that are designed to support Wales based disabled artists to develop new work.

The residencies will provide the time and support for artists to focus exclusively upon their own practice. The 4 artists will each have the opportunity to spend time with ground-breaking support organisation Celf o Gwmpas at their base in Llandrindod Wells, Powys, and focus on research, experimentation and the development of new work. The successful applicants will form part of a national and international residency project supporting disabled artists working in a wide variety of art forms.

Residencies will be taking place in October, November, December 2017 and January 2018: dates tbc.

Selection will be made on the basis of a proposal. We wish to support artistic research with the emphasis on ambition, risk-taking and experimentation.

The residency opportunity is supported by Arts Council Wales.

The package includes:

•£1,000 each to cover artist fees, travel and subsistence costs

•Accessible self-contained accommodation

•Shared studio facilities at Centre Celf

•Opportunity to show work in progress

•Advice and guidance on future opportunities, including consideration for Celf o Gwmpas exhibition programme.
