Ty Llywelyn Centre

Alice Mural for the Rabbit Hole!

rabbit-holeA mural created by children of the Tre Cwm estate will take pride of place at the rabbit hole cafe llandudno from the 16th of December.

Artist Rachael Roberts project managed and facilitated many of the creative sessions at the Ty Llywelyn centre. The Ty Llywelyn youth club enjoyed sessions delivered by 3 local artists; Rachael, Andy Burke and Andrew Jenkins, supported by funds from Conwy Health and wellbeing (Jayne Neal/Claire Lister).

The project was a huge success with 12 murals created in total. 10 murals adorning the walls of Ty Llywelyn, one at the DAWN centre Colwyn Bay and the final mural to be placed at the Rabbithole, Llandudno.

Rachael said “This project has been a huge success with the majority of the groups accessing Ty Llywelyn participating in atleast one of the sessions including; Gateway, Phab, Lucheaon, Jigsaw and Youth group/s. Working with a wide variety of participants has enabled us to create a diverse range of artworks to adorn the walls of the centre and other relevant locations.”

Cae Garnedd extra care scheme residents get creative this May

A NORTH Wales artist is inviting local residents to get involved with an arts project she is running with a group of over 55s living in Bangor.

Rachael Roberts from Bryn y Maen near Colwyn Bay will be working with residents from the Cae Garnedd extra care scheme on Penrhos Road on the ‘Women of Wales’ project.

‘Women of Wales’ is inspired by famous women from Welsh literary figures who are connected to Anglesey.

These figures areBranwen from the Mabinogion, St Dwynwen – the patron saint of Welsh lovers and Princess Siwan, wife of LlywelynFawr – the Prince of Gwynedd.

Says Rachael

“I’m looking for members of the public to volunteer to come along to the ‘Women of Wales’ sessions I’ll be running every Thursday throughout May at Cae Garnedd, which is run by North Wales Housing.

“During the workshops, we’ll be producing arts works in different media –including collage, natural Welsh inks and clay modelling.

“This will give residents at CaeGarnedd the chance to socialise and get to know people from the wider community while taking part in creative activities.

“After the workshops, we’ll be exhibiting the works that have been produced at the venue and the people from CaeGarnedd will also have the chance to come along and see their work on show. Work will go on tour to another Gwanwyn event at Eirias Park on 1 June.“

The ‘Women in Wales’ project is being funded by the Gwanwyn arts festival for over 50s.

Gwanwyn is a month long, Wales-wide arts festival for over 50s which has been running for the last 10 years.

Age Cymru runs Gwanwyn with support from the Welsh Government and Arts Council for Wales.

Says Emma Robinson, the Gwanwyn festival coordinator:

“I’m really excited that Rachael Roberts – whose work has been exhibited at Plas Glyn y Weddw, is contributing to this year’s Gwanwyn festival.

“Her ‘Women of Wales’ project is a great way to combine the stories of famous Welsh literary figures with the festival’s aim of celebrating creativity in older age.

“I’m sure the people who live at CaeGarnedd will enjoy working with Rachael during May and I’d encourage anyone else who would like to take part in the workshops to book a place while they’re still available.”

To book a place on the ‘Women of Wales’ workshops, please email Carwyn George at the CaeGarnedd extra care scheme – [email protected] or if you don’t have email pop in to book directly.
