Theatr Iolo

Theatr Iolo is delighted to invite submissions from emerging artists to be part of the third and final year of Platfform, our artist development programme. This year, it’s all about families…

We are inviting submissions for two residency opportunities and are thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with The Welfare, Ystradgynlais ( and The Riverfront                 ( in Newport.

We are inviting submissions from theatre-makers (devisers, directors, writers, musicians, poets, spoken word artists, game-makers, puppeteers, story-tellers, comedians, live artists –the list goes on), organisations and partnerships interested in exploring and devising a new idea with and for families.

“Plattform has allowed us as artists and theatre makers the chance to form a stronger bond with Welsh venues. It has challenged our practice and given us the time and space to explore the world of theatre for children and young people. Platfform has opened doors we never knew existed!”

Theatr Iolo

Platfform || Pontio

A New partnership between Theatr Iolo’s Platfform programme and Pontio launched for artists who want to develop Welsh language work for and with families in North Wales.
Platfform is Theatr Iolo’s experimental three year programme designed to support emerging artists research and develop theatre and theatrical happenings with and for children, young people and families in partnership with a venue. A priority for the Teulu Pontio Family strand of programming is to present more Welsh language work for families, so with this is mind the Platfform || Pontio project will bring the experience, resources and support networks of both organisations together in a condensed and focused programme of artist research and development.
Running alongside year three Platfform residencies in South Wales and Powys, Platfform || Pontio will focus on working with a North Wales based artist (or an artist who shows a strong commitment to the area and its communities) from September 2017 to May 2018 to develop Welsh language work for and with families with children aged between 4 and 7
The successful artist will receive a bespoke package of support starting in September 2017 to include support from Platfform’s Welsh Language project Producer and Pontio staff to realise their ideas. They will also receive administrative, technical and marketing support and help making links with families in the area. They will have access to a package of training and go & see visits along with mentor and peer support from industry practitioners. Artists will receive industry standard daily rates of pay and there will be an additional artistic budget of £3000 available for the three blocks of three days research and development running from January 2018 to May 2018, culminating in a public sharing at Pontio in May 2018.
