Be upstanding for The Flop –

HijinxHijinx takes a firm hold of one of France’s
most explosive tales

The makers of Meet Fred team up with Spymonkey for a some serious clowning around.

Pioneering Welsh theatre company, Hijinx, have a brand new show The Flop, which previews at Chapter in 12-14 July 8pm, before making a world premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

The Flop, developed with clown supremos Spymonkey, is a historical romp through a bizarre true story of the impotency trials in 17 Century France. Embracing the art of clowning, slapstick and breaking a farcical fourth wall, The Flop blends Hijinx’s trademark playful humour with Spymonkey’s anarchic physicality.

About The Show

Paris. 1657ish. Impotence is illegal. When the Marquis De Langey is accused of being less than upstanding, his wounded pride leads him towards a monumental and very public flop. The Flopis a clowning physical comedy show with live music and big wigs.

Hijinx, one of Britain’s leading inclusive theatre companies, were winners of Best Ensemble in the Wales Theatre Awards in 2016 for Meet Fred. The Flop is a Hijinx production and the cast comprises of three learning disabled actors alongside three non-disabled actors. It is directed by Ben Pettitt-Wade (Meet Fred) and Toby Parks from Spymonkey is creative mentor and composer.

This year’s Art Car Bootique theme is REVOLUTION! reflecting on 100 years since the Russian Revolution, one of the most radical moments in history. As part of the Russia 17 Festival across the city, this year we are asking artists and makers what REVOLUTION looks like for them, in these uncertain times.

Established in 2011, the Art Car Bootique is an eclectic and eccentric mix of artist projects and performances, live music, delicious street food and vintage fashion, celebrating the very best of South Wales’ creative community. From 11am until 6pm our car park is transformed into a psychedelic village fete, jam-packed with over 70 pitches for you to explore and enjoy and live music and performances on stage.
