Literature Wales – Bursaries and Mentoring

Literature Wales has recently announced that the next round of Bursaries and Mentoring is now open for submission. The schemes are open to emerging and experienced writers alike.

The LITERATURE WALES WRITERS’ BURSARIES enable writers to develop new work without any firm commitment to its publication. This gives writers
the opportunity to venture into new territory and develop their artistic process, providing them with the time and resources to research, write, review and reflect.

A SUPPORT FUND BURSARY is a sum of up to £1,000 for writers with mobility problems or disabilities in need of specialist equipment and assistance to enable them to develop their work in progress.

The MENTORING SCHEME offers support and practical advice to writers at the start of their careers by offering them a place on a bespoke mentoring course as well as a series of one-to-one sessions with an experienced writer in order to develop a specific work in progress to a publishable standard.

THE CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS FOR 2019 BURSARIES AND MENTORING IS 5.00 PM ON TUESDAY 11 SEPTEMBER 2018.

The guidelines and application forms for the 2019 Literature Wales Writers’ Bursaries and 2019 Mentoring are available to download from the Literature Wales website.

Bursary opportunity within Film and TV

Diverse Cymru is pleased to announce our new training and support bursary for diverse people working in Wales’ high end film and TV industries.

Supported by Creative Skillset and the High-end TV Levy fund, we are offering a simple training bursary and mentoring programme for people from protected characteristic groups, who already have some experience in the industry and wish to further develop their skills and knowledge.

Working with well-known industry training organisations, we will be awarding 6 people a training package up to the value of £500 each.

Successful applicants will choose their own training options and will be paired up with mentors from within the industry who will be able to support them through the training and onwards.

For those not successful in the bursary process, we will offer support and advice to access any number of other opportunities currently available such as free training, mentoring, and access to support networks.

We will provide links with existing industry networks to get their faces and names known, and to have the opportunity to gain access to work opportunities in real time.

This opportunity is open to anyone who identifies from one or more protected characteristic groups, eg. LGBT, BME or from the disabled community.

If you are interested or know of anyone who could use the support, we are offering 3 ways to apply:

  1. You/they can complete the simple application form and return it to us
  2. You/they can email us and request a telephone interview to directly answer the questions
  3. You/they can submit a film/short video clip of you answering the questions

FFILM CYMRU WALES SPARKS NEW BEACONS SCHEME

The fourth round of Ffilm Cymru Wales’ Beacons short film scheme is now open for applications.

Funded through Ffilm Cymru’s BFI Welsh Talent Network, Beacons invests in emerging writers, directors and producers from Wales to develop bold and unique voices, explore diverse forms of cinematic storytelling, and establish flourishing careers as feature filmmakers. This year, between five and seven short films will be funded, with awards ranging between £5,000 and £15,000. Films can be up to 15 minutes in length, made in any genre or technique, including animation, documentary, Virtual Reality and 360° filmmaking, and may be in English, Welsh or a mix of languages reflecting the rich heritage and cultural diversity of Wales.

Kimberley Warner, Ffilm Cymru’s Head of Creative Business, comments: “Beacons is our best opportunity to discover the next wave of exciting Welsh filmmakers; we’re looking for filmmakers with a strong point of view and a cinematic eye, and not necessarily a formal background in film.”
