The next Access Forum will take us back to basics, covering how to make your performances accessible with BSL, Captioning and Audio Description, and how to market them to your audiences.

Confirmed speakers:

Julie Roberts BSL interpreter.  Julie interprets performances at Venue Cymru, Clwyd theatre Cymru, Theatre Severn and Oakengates theatre.

Trevor Dennis Audio Describer. Trevor Dennis has been an audio describer at Clwyd Theatr for over 20 years, alongside his role as a support teacher for visually impaired children in mainstream schools and chairman and editor of Sain Clwyd Sound, a monthly audio CD for visually impaired people in North East Wales.

Ben Tinniswood, freelance Closed Captioner. Ben provides Closed Captioning for a variety of Companies & Venues across Wales including NTW, WMC, Tin Shed, Dirty Protest & Motherlode.

Following the session, there will the opportunity to ask questions.

The invitation is open to all, so please do share far and wide with anyone who may have an interest in this subject and future forums.

Please let us know if you have any access requirements. BSL interpretation will be provided.

Those attending are welcome to participate in their language of choice, so please let us know if you have a preference. We can provide Welsh-English simultaneous translation for the event. If this is something you would like to use, please let us know.

Creating Accessible productions for D/deaf communities & Safeguarding Mental Wellbeing

Gartholwg Learning Centre, Pontypridd


Join us at Gartholwg Learning Centre, Pontypridd, to hear from Angharad Lee (Leeway Productions) and Jamie Berry (Avant Cymru) about their experiences making accessible theatre.

Jamie will talk about how Avant Cyrmu support & safeguard the Mental Wellbeing of both Artists & participants the company works with, and the company members themselves.

Having recently conceived, directed and coproduced the groundbreaking production of The Last 5 Years, Angharad will discuss some of the challenges, discoveries and realisations she had as an artist as she moved from the initial idea to the 1st performance of this accessible musical. She will discuss the disappointments as well as the successes and welcomes questions, observations and a continued dialogue.

There will also be plenty of time for discussion and questions.

BSL Interpretation will be provided by Claire Anderson.
