New Years Honour

Congratulations to Jane Latham

We were delighted to hear that Jane Latham of UCAN Productions has been awarded the British Empire Medal in this year’s New Years Honours list. UCAN Productions is a performance and creative arts co-operative for blind and partially sighted children, young people and their friends that Jane has co-ordinated tirelessly for many years. Jane’s passion for supporting blind and visually impaired young people to enable them to live fulfilling creative lives can be seen with the success so many members of UCAN have achieved.  Under Jane’s determined, generous and talented hand young people across Wales have flourished. DAC have partnered with UCAN on several projects so have seen first hand the dedication both Jane and her husband Bernie have committed to this brilliant company. It is reassuring that all their wonderful hard work has been recognised and an award has been given to such a deserving person and organisation, congratulations.

Upcycling and Mobility Training

Recycling of Medical Aids

UMT are a non for profit Social Enterprise CIC where they save used community mobility equipment that is destined to be scrapped.  They repair, refurbish and upcycle the equipment helping with the circular economy.

Their aim is to have a warehouse where they will offer volunteer and job opportunities to veterans with PTSD and mental ill health initially and once the structure is in place they will open their offer to disabled and less able bodied people.

The aids will be offered at a greatly reduced cost for individuals who wish to purchase equipment that has not been up cycled or a little more when a item has been refurbished in bespoke colours and materials.

Equipment that is not suitable for its intended use is upcycled into garden boxes, seats, trollies which are all raised to help wheelchair users garden.
