National Theatre Wales

Non-Executive Director / Trustee

National Theatre Wales 2Pro Bono

Deadline – Tuesday 18th September 2018

Founded in 2009, National Theatre Wales (NTW) is the nation’s English language national theatre company. Its vision is to create extraordinary experiences for Wales and the world. Proudly radical in its approach, the company utilises Wales’ rich and diverse settings, ranging from beaches to aircraft hangars, and collaborates with artists, companies, audiences and communities to create and deliver compelling and impactful English language theatre.

To date, National Theatre Wales has presented over 50 productions; large and small scale and of consistently high levels of quality. In its first few years, it successfully engaged c.360,000 people through productions and 3,000 active participation events, plus a further 1.6million through digital live casting and television.

Building on critical acclaim for its site-located work, the company’s focus will be on the themes of Place and People. Key features of its strategic priorities are the production of large-scale events to inspire high levels of community involvement and audience interest from across Wales, the nurturing and development of artists as a means of achieving extraordinary new theatre productions, and placing digital platforms at the heart of its ambition to deliver twenty-first century theatre.

For the next stage of our journey we are recruiting a number of Non‐Executive Directors to join our Board. We need individuals with relevant skills and experience in the areas of Community & Social engagement, Business Life (commercial), Digital & Broadcast, Theatre, Marketing, Finance, Fundraising and Legal or if you are simply someone who is passionate about attending theatre. In this role you would work effectively with our current Board members, the Executive Team and various creative partners to help us realise our artistic vision and reflect the best of Wales at home and abroad.

As a Board member you will contribute to the good governance of the organisation and its use of public funds, and will act in an ambassadorial role.

If you think you are that person, and share our values, ideals and aspirations, then we’d love to hear from you.

‘Sheer artistry… a profoundly absorbing and moving show’ ★★★★

Off-Kilter is a darkly comedic visual theatre production from Ramesh Meyyappan, incorporating illusions and masterful non-verbal storytelling.

At work and at home, Joe Kilter has his routine. Some people think Joe is obsessive. Joe would prefer not to be thought of at all. A change in his routine turns his world askew. His life is no longer his own, his house is knocked sideways and he’s off his game. Joe Kilter is off-kilter. Feeling increasingly isolated, his life feels impossible until he is forced to exist in darkness.

Off-Kilter explores mental well-being, identity, feeling a little bit different from everyone else and not quite being yourself.
