Hidden Now Heard
11th February – 25th March 2017
Please join us for the opening of our new series of exhibitions on Saturday 18th February 2017 at 12 noon. All welcome.
This exhibition focuses on the stories of former staff and patients from Cwmbran’s Llanfrechfa Grange Hospital allowing the public a glimpse of what it was like to grow up and spend up to forty years living in an institution. It has been interpreted using oral history interviews, recreating parts of the hospital, displaying historical documents, images and artifacts donated by staff and patients.
The Periodic Table of Emotions
The Periodic Table of Emotions, Sagacity, is a live application which was designed to capture the mood of a city. It is based on sentiment analysis of live feeds or those who tweet directly to the application. By assigning a unique hashtag to an event, exhibition, organisation the applications become wider within more specific target groups. It can also operate within purely geo-located parameters. Sagacity is ultra responsive in that an emotion can be illuminated within 30 seconds of it being sent and being represented on screen in full hue.The colour fades with lack of use over time.
After studying a degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing at the School of Jewellery in Birmingham Jodie moved to London to pursue her dreams and spent seven years working for fashion jewellery designer Scott Wilson creating collections for trade shows including London Fashion Week and one off commission pieces for major fashion houses and celebrities including Pringle, Swarovski, Robbie Williams and Kylie.
Jodie returned to Cardiff and in 2008 set up her own business establishing herself within galleries and shops throughout the UK with her Ribbon and Equilateral Collections.
The Ribbon Collection is her signature range, inspired from the moment you unravel a roll of satin ribbon, it twists and loops, as you lift it a knot forms. She manipulates the metal creating a light wearable adornment that looks beautiful from every angle.
The Cat in the Shoe
Working from her spare room by the sea, Lucy Brasher’s work focuses on the animal form incorporating the human element.
Her work has a touch of whimsy with a darker undertone, much like the fables and folklore that have influenced them. All of Lucy’s work is created by hand and machine using predominantly reclaimed and re-purposed fabrics.
