We are delighted that we have a number of events across Wales in September where will be screening the completed Changing the Focus? film and running an archive workshop.
Changing The Focus? is a participatory film project exploring the ways in which the lives of people with learning disabilities have changed over the past fifty years.
The project has been run by film-maker and researcher Ben Ewart-Dean, in collaboration with Disability Arts Cymru. It was made possible with funding from Ffilm Cymru Wales and Heritage Lottery Fund.
The project was held in collaboration with a group of people from Hijinx Academy, who were invited to view a selection of archive films featuring depictions of people with learning disabilities. Following the viewings, discussion sessions were held with the group, during which their views and opinions on the material were recorded.
The resulting film consists of edited highlights from these discussions. These sections are accompanied by the stories of individuals with learning disabilities, illustrated by films and photographs from their own personal archive.
If you would like to make your own archive film as part of the workshop, then please bring along 10-15 family photographs or some video.
