Artist talk and tour –  EDGE
Monday 13 November @ Pontio Innovations level 2
If you are interested in learning about opportunities to develop your creative practice using technology this will be a day for you.

To co-incide with the Helfa Gelf EDGE exhibition at White Box in Pontio, Bangor there will be a training day where participants are given the opportunity to take part in an artist-led tour of the EDGE exhibition.  Here the artists involved will talk about their work and the potential for new digital technology to invigorate artistic visions and develop creative practice.  This will be combined with a guided tour of Pontio Innovate’s “Fab Lab” with demonstrations of the cutting edge technology available.

 This is a great opportunity to exhibit as part of a varied exhibition of Helfa Gelf artists.

We’re looking for applications for this opportunity from Helfa Gelf artists, specifically 3D/applied art for this exhibition.

The successful applications will have their work on show for 6 weeks from the beginning of November until mid December at Y Capel, Llangollen.

In partnership with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, there will be opportunities to exhibit at Llangollen Health Centre. The dates for the exhibition 31st of October until end of January 2018.
There’s an opportunity to exhibit work in this Health Centre, with possibility of new audiences seeing the work.

Art Masterclasses for artists and creative

Helfa Gelf is hosting a number of residency projects during September as part of this year’s event.

Working with HG artists group, CARN, the general public will be invited to create a large installation of large newspaper front pages,  to hang in the space above the Bar at Galeri. The piece will be created in connection to INC festival at Galeri at the end of September. The INC festival is a celebration of the newspaper industry history in Caernarfon. Members of CARN, Rita Ann and Anthony Morris will be inviting you to partake in the creation of the installation in a FREE activity.

Artist Luned Rhys Parri will be creating work with some of the residents based on some of the research made on the building, at Blind Veterans UK in a week long residency. 
The work will then be exhibited at Venue Cymru, Llandudno 1st of October – 31st of December.

Unlocking Potential

Helping young people achieve their potential through meaningful artistic interventions.

21st September, 10am – 4pm

Denbigh Town Hall

£30 full fee/£25 Engage organisational members/£20 Engage freelance members, Helfa Gelf and AAF members

Fee includes light buffet lunch and refreshments.

This will be an interesting and informative event if you are working or thinking about working with young offenders.

 Aimed at: artists, arts development officers, arts organisations, youth workers, education officers, youth service.

Unlocking Potential aims to bring together arts, youth justice, youth services and education professionals together to explore best practice in engaging young offenders, or those at risk of offending or exclusion through meaningful arts interventions.

We will explore a range of arts interventions, including:-

‘ReCreations’ led by the John Hansard Gallery, Southampton who are working in partnership with the Police & Crime Commissioner

Engage Cymru Summer Arts Colleges delivered at Parc Prison Youth Offending Institute and Hillside Secure Unit, Neath

And explore these in the context of the recent Youth Justice Review (Charlie Taylor Review) which promotes access to meaningful activities for young people that motivate and inspire and support them to develop skills and gain qualifications.  The event will offer an introduction to Arts Award and include a practical interactive artist-led session on the qualification.

A couple of diary markers for you of sessions with our partners:

Friday 15th September, Llandudno, as part of the Llawn Arts Festival.  Changing a space.  This session is about redesigning a space using drawing/painting and OHP projectors & digital technology.   Participants will use their creative skills in a new way experimenting with light, stencils and live drawing.  The facilitator will also cover the implications of artists working in a public space in a venue that traditionally isn’t associated with art.

 

Thursday 21st September, Denbigh Town Hall, Unlocking Potential.  With Engage Cymru & Denbighshire Arts Service, how to work with young re-offenders.
