SaveWILG – Nathan Lee Davies

 Education Gallery, Theatr Clwyd

Exhibition open January 24th – February 12th  2018

 Private view event by invitation only – 2nd February 2018 @ 3-5pm

A group of creative practitioners and activists – led by Wrexham-based artist Nathan Lee Davies – have been working together on a campaign to encourage the Welsh Government to reconsider their current plans for changes to the Welsh Independent Living Grant (WILG). The artist is keen to raise awareness of the additional support that the grant offers, enabling individuals with the greatest needs to live fulfilling lives. The project is backed by Disability Arts Cymru (DAC) and supported as part of the DAC Extra mentoring programme; which enables Wales-based disabled artists to work with some of Wales’ most exciting arts venues and to receive professional guidance from sector leading professionals.

The #SaveWILG exhibition is a collection of visual art and poetry produced by a number of artists and writers from across the UK; focusing on ‘independent living’ as a central theme of investigation. The exhibition will open on January 24th at 9am in the Education Gallery at Theatr Clwyd and will continue until February 12th. Please come along to show your support for this campaign and to enjoy the powerful and emotive art created by people with passion and determination that are united in the belief that disabled lives matter.

Public art proposal for Flint Castle

Close view from the south eastFlint Castle 8(3)

Welsh Government has allocated funds to develop a public art proposal for Flint Castle as part of a wider regeneration and development project.

Between January and March 2018 a team/consortium of artists, or an organisation, will be commissioned to work with the communities of Flint to explore discuss and investigate their aspirations for the flint foreshore, the castle and relationship with the town. The artists will use creativity to fully engage with the local community to develop themes and stories to be used that may inform the production of a permanent public artwork to be commissioned in the future. Flintshire County Council’s Arts, Culture and Events section will be managing the project.

This specific commission is to contract a team or consortium of artists or organisation to work within Flint’s communities in a variety of art genres for 60 days between the 8thof January and the 30 March 2018, with research and planning taking place in December 2017. We would welcome expressions of interest from artists, across all artforms, who are highly experienced in working with diverse communities. We would particularly welcome expressions of interest from a team/consortium of artists or organisations using a variety of artforms.

Expressions of interest need to be emailed to gwenno.e.jones@flintshire.gov.uk by Friday 1 December 2017 and must include all Artist CV’s outlining relevant experience, contact details of two referees per team, a proposal of how you would approach the brief and a covering letter, an estimated budget. For an informal discussion please contact Gwenno Jones on 01352 702471.
Please see attached documents for further information on how to apply.
