Taking Flight Theatre Company – Real Human Being
Real Human Being, written by Matthew Bulgo, was a piece developed by Taking Flight in 2012 to raise awareness of Disability Hate Crime. With funding from the Welsh Government’s Equality and Inclusion grant and in partnership with Disability Arts Cymru, Taking Flight are once again touring this powerful piece of forum theatre to Year 9 students across Wales.
In 2013 Taking Flight won a National Diversity Award for their integrated work.
Disability Arts Cymru are delighted to be providing the teacher training for this project. In the autumn of 2014 we will be running disability equality training, discussing the issues raised in the teachers pack and also mental health first aid training for teachers and staff involved with the project.
The project will run every autumn up until 2017, therefore reaching a huge number of young people who will be made aware of the impact of disability hate crime on disabled people and their families. Real Human Being will create a forum for debate, raise awareness and change attitudes.
