Public art proposal for Flint Castle

Close view from the south eastFlint Castle 8(3)

Welsh Government has allocated funds to develop a public art proposal for Flint Castle as part of a wider regeneration and development project.

Between January and March 2018 a team/consortium of artists, or an organisation, will be commissioned to work with the communities of Flint to explore discuss and investigate their aspirations for the flint foreshore, the castle and relationship with the town. The artists will use creativity to fully engage with the local community to develop themes and stories to be used that may inform the production of a permanent public artwork to be commissioned in the future. Flintshire County Council’s Arts, Culture and Events section will be managing the project.

This specific commission is to contract a team or consortium of artists or organisation to work within Flint’s communities in a variety of art genres for 60 days between the 8thof January and the 30 March 2018, with research and planning taking place in December 2017. We would welcome expressions of interest from artists, across all artforms, who are highly experienced in working with diverse communities. We would particularly welcome expressions of interest from a team/consortium of artists or organisations using a variety of artforms.

Expressions of interest need to be emailed to gwenno.e.jones@flintshire.gov.uk by Friday 1 December 2017 and must include all Artist CV’s outlining relevant experience, contact details of two referees per team, a proposal of how you would approach the brief and a covering letter, an estimated budget. The Chimes

…..a magical new piece of music theatre, packed full of colourful characters and haunting melodies, which has been adapted from the second Christmas story by Charles Dickens.

Thursday 7 – Saturday 16 December (St John’s Church, Canton)

Tickets: £16/£12                   Age 14+

The Story

The Chimes’s biting satire was intended to effect real political change. It addresses issues of homelessness, vagrancy and self-respect and if he were alive today, Dickens would be clamouring for a capitalist change of heart to address our present ‘Condition of England’ and of the wider world.

Our production

…. captures the true spirit of Christmas.

True to the spirit of The Chimes, this production has invited a number of men and women who have been homeless and are now striving to rebuild their lives with the support of The Wallich, the Huggard, The Passage and St. Mungo’s to participate in a professional theatre production.

The weaving of the non-professional and professional has, in recent years, created works of stunning originality. Our professional cast and community ensemble have come together to create a magical seasonal alternative, packed full of colourful characters and haunting melodies, which will touch your heart and bring fire to your soul.

Cast: Olivia Rose Aaron, Lucy Benson Brown, Joanna Brookes, Dafydd Emyr, Gruffydd Evans, Rhys Parry Jones, Matthew Jure, Fergus Rees

and an ensemble of men and women who are or have been homeless.

Writer: David Willis
Composer: Conor Linehan
Director: Judith Roberts
Musical Director: Cathal Synnott
